I admire the work that World Vision does and the creative ways that they’ve used technology to provide ways for people to get involved in their mission to work “with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.”
I first got acquainted with World Vision by listening to the World Vision Report. This is a weekly report that takes you to “the world’s most vulnerable people, and those who make a difference in their lives”. You can listen online or download the program as a podcast. I listen every week, and am especially encouraged to hear about the creative ideas that people come up with to help others–like the man who left Microsoft and has started a program to distribute books around the world, or this story about solar flashlights. It’s also nice to hear Peggy Wehmeyer‘s voice again–she was the first religion correspondent for ABC World News Tonight. Many of these stories are heartbreaking, but they are a good reminder that there are people out there who need our help.
If you’re looking for a way to get your kids involved in giving, look through the World Vision Gift Catalog. You can give a goat, or a well, or a “gift of the month” package that will give a gift every month for a year.
